Beautiful house built in stone, on the unspoilt island of Serifos, in Greece. Situated in a rural hillside location with lovely views over the sea. A large, spacious holiday property with five bedrooms and five bathrooms, the house will accommodate up to ten people with private pool. The Stone House is rustic, secluded and in a quiet, tranquil position. Only 15 – 20 minutes walk to the nearest beach and a few minutes drive to the harbour and village nearby.
This lovely villa sits at the end of a long, private unpaved road on the hillside above the sea. Recently built out of local, natural stone it blends in beautifully with the landscape. There are only two other private villas in the vicinity, and it is therefore very quiet and peaceful.
Accommodation Details
The house can be accessed from two levels. The top level of the house is essentially one big space with a large, fully equipped kitchen, a dining space and a built-in sitting corner with a fireplace. It has magnificent sea views.
French doors open to a large veranda on the front of the house, while to the rear is a covered patio with a big dining table. There also is a small study/bedroom and a WC.
The main bedrooms are downstairs. The master bedroom has a double bed (1.60m), a fireplace and an en suite shower. Next to it is a large bedroom with two built-in single beds and an ensuite shower. Another bedroom has a wooden sleeping platform with either a double mattress (1.40m) or two single mattresses. Accessed from the corridor are two bathrooms, one with a small shower and the other with a bath. All bedrooms all have undisturbed sea views.
Finally, there also is a semi-independent studio with a small double bedroom and a living room with built-in sofas, a dining corner, a kitchenette, and a shower room. The studio has no sea-view, but opens up to a small patio.
There is a CD sound system and TV with DVD. This is a unique property on Serifos, furnished and decorated in a stylish cycladic manner.
Outside Facilities
Set in an open position on the side of a hill, The Stone House has a large terrace to the front with beautiful views to the sea and a covered rear terrace with large dining table for al fresco dining. There is a beautiful 8 x 5 metre fresh water pool with flat loungers and deck chairs and a covered seating area and barbecue. The harbour is less than ten minutes drive away and nearest sandy beaches are less than five minutes drive, or about 15 – 20 minute’s walk away.
Idyllic for Children & Teenagers:
Very young children need supervision around the house for safety reasons. Otherwise, the house is ideal for children as plenty of toys, board games, books and DVDs are available. It is a great area for children to ‘roam around’ in all safety. They can enjoy a lot of freedom on the island and if they are old enough, they can pretty much go where they want during the day. Teenagers can easily walk to the port. Even slightly younger kids go there to eat crepes or ice cream, or play football with local and other kids. Some beaches can be reached on foot. One of the beaches not too far from the house, Kalo Ambeli, is a kids’ favourite. It has beautiful rocks on both sides, and they go on ‘trips’, partly climbing, partly swimming; they love it. Other activities children of all ages (and their parents!) enjoy include snorkelling, fishing, making art from driftwood and collecting pebbles at the beach (Ganema is particularly good for that) and painting them. Even though Serifos doesn’t offer much in terms of ‘organised entertainment’ for children, they will never get bored on the island.
Local Area
Only 3 kms away is the port of Livadi, set in a wide greenery fringed bay. Its seafront has many places to eat or to have a drink. You will also find several bakeries, butchers, a handful of fruit shops, supermarkets, a pharmacy and a few art shops. Livadi has a particularly relaxed and easy-going atmosphere. There is a perfect balance between quiet and entertainment, and if you are looking for some nightlife, you won’t be disappointed either.
The island’s ‘capital’, the hora, spectacularly situated at the top of a mountain, is only ten minutes drive from Livadi.. A stroll through the narrow streets of the Hora to the remains of the Venetian Kastro at the top is enough to make a visit to Serifos worth its while.
The mountainous landscape of Serifos offers endless possibilities for hiking and the island is dotted with villages and monasteries worth exploring. The coastline offers an excellent choice of sandy beaches. Most can be reached by car, but others are a short walk. There are two very quiet beaches only a few minutes drive from the house, or 15 – 20 minute’s walk away, and about the same distance away is a practically deserted beach which can only be reached by foot.
There is also a scuba diving school on the island.
