In high season months it can be rented as a whole, sleeping up to twelve people. Set in a private estate of sixty acres of gorgeous countryside, there is a lovely pool and beautiful views.
Bertagni Farmhouse is an 18th Century farmhouse that once belonged to a much older Villa owned by Italian nobility. The property has recently been restored and converted to provide a beautiful six bedroomed holiday villa, accommodating up to twelve people, but which can also be rented as three elegant and spacious holiday apartments, each accommodating four people.
The villa and estate is located less than a kilometre from the charming Tuscan town of Castenuovo Garfagnana, at the centre of a beautiful area renowned for its lakes, mountains, valleys and caves. Set in sixty acres of forest and hills, the villa has commanding views of the mountains and the village below.

Accommodation Details
Pucci
Up a few stairs, a small balcony opens into the entrance hall of this apartment. There are high ceilings throughout, and original exposed beams. The entrance hall leads into the comfortable living room, with open fire, and there is a well equipped kitchen. Two double bedrooms and shower room.
Tosca
Tosca has a large balcony/terrace. The comfortable living room has high ceilings and exposed beams, and there is a small hallway that leads to the kitchen. One large twin bedroom and one double bedroom; bathroom.
Aida
Aida is the ground floor apartment with patio doors leading onto its own large terrace. There is a grand open plan living area with two big arches, one forming a kitchen with all facilities and the other creating a double sleeping area with its own shower room. There is a big double bedroom with patio doors leading to another terrace and a full bathroom.
When Bertagni Farmhouse is rented as a whole, Aida on the ground floor can provide dining facilities for up to twelve people, either inside or outside on the large terrace.
All three apartments are centrally heated, so are suitable for winter lets too.
Outside Facilities
Bertagni Farmhouse is surrounded by sixty acres of private land, mainly forested hillside. The setting is superb. Faded formal reminders of the rich history of the property remain throughout the grounds – stone arches and fountains, and gracious cypress trees frame the many vistas. There is a lovely swimming pool of 4 x 12 metres.
Local Area
The Farmhouse is situated above a little Village called Torrite, and about ten minutes’ walk from the market town of Castelnuovo. Further afield, there are the towns of Forte de Marmi, Massi and Carrara, approached by driving through some spectuacular countryside with views over mountains and valleys.
Castelnuovo Garfagnana is the centre of this beautiful area, and all around there are attractive mediaeval villages, the best known being Barga, where an Opera Festival is held every summer. Nearby is the house of the Poet Giovanni Pascoli, and Viarregio is famous for its Carnival, held in February.
Other area worth visiting include: Lucca (45 minutes drive); Montecatini, famous for its Spa Water and Casinos (1 hour’s drive) and Florence about 1½ hour’s drive away.
If you relish the best in traditional Italian food, and don’t mind a drive to get it, Portofino is about 2½ hours away and is favoured by the Italians! Locally, however, there are many other restaurants in this unspoiled part of Italy.
Practically, there is a Gym including a sauna below the villa. Tennis courts and an indoor pool are also about ten minutes away, and golf facilities about twenty minutes away. There is also a small food shop and supermarket within walking distance, and a local market every Thursday.
